Stelios Scopelitis
Triptychs

October 2000 – January 2001

A new exhibition on the ground floor of the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete - "L.Kanakakis" Municipal Art Gallery was opened in Rethymnon on October 27, 2000.

The exhibition comprised works by the photographer Stelios Scopelitis from his "Triptych" series which, after their presentation in Athens, at the “Ileana Tounta” Contemporary Art Center, in 1997, were donated by the artist to the Rethymnon Center for Contemporary Art (today Contemporary Art Museum of Crete -CCA).

The works are based on photographs of slaughter houses, brothels and self-portraits.

In this exhibition, the artist, who has used photography as his means of expression for over 40 years, focuses on the contrasting violence that emerges by juxtaposing photographic images of slaughter houses, brothels and expressionistic self-portraits.

Since students were among the most regular visitors to the Municipal Gallery, the works that had been selected for this particular exhibition came only from the sections on slaughterhouses and portraits.

The presentation of the works is indicative of the importance of the artist’s work.
