Purple Earth

Visitors discovered the “Purple Earth” (Deep Red Earth) in the “8 Art Space” (8 Himaras Str.) outside the fortress in the old town of Rethymno. This was a relocation of the exhibition that had been held at the Sifnos Monastery of Fyrogia in summer 2001.

The exhibition inaugurated on 17 May 2002 and explored the possibility of transferring the in situ artwork to the conventional exhibition area. Furthermore, it was curated by Maria Marangou.

The artists participating in the exhibition were Giorgos Gyparakis, Dimitris Zouroudis, Lizzie Calligas, Popi Krouska, Harris Kondosphyris, Maria Loizidou, Eleni Lyra, Yannis Michas, Angelos Skourtis and Pantelis Chandris.

The exhibition entitled “Crimson Gaia” (Deep Red Earth) was held in Rethymno with the financial support of Lockheed Martin Corporation that sponsored the same exhibition at the Sifnos Monastery of Fyrogia.
