Eight artists - One course
On Monday, November 26, 2001, the Rethymnon Center for Contemporary Art (today Contemporary Art Museum of Crete) exhibition entitled "Eight artists - one course" was inaugurated, with works by its collaborators who taught at the Workroom of Fine Arts.
The participating artists were: Voula Gounela, Katerina Korre, Efsevia Michailidou, Thodoris Raftopoulos, Yannis Stefanakis, Tassos Triandafyllou, Maria Choulaki, Kostas Christidis.
The exhibition comprised new works by the artists presenting directly the personal expression of each one of them and indirectly their testimony, in the common course they follow, at the Workroom of Fine Arts and the Education Department of the Rethymnon Center for Contemporary Art, an experiment that, after some years, will probably give an answer to the question of whether or not children's constant contact with art can have a positive impact on their development and to what extent.
The debate and the relevant questions are repeated from time to time, - anyway who is reassured about their certainties? You see, our small town has the privilege, a privilege acquired over time, of being the only town in Greece where extracurricular visual art education is so dense, deriving directly and indirectly from five separate activities that converge on the subject of art - child:
- Design and selection of exhibitions, under a specific philosophy and continuous information and understanding of the projects and the issues they generate, with special tours and educational programs.
- Workroom of Fine Arts
- Special planning of bringing into contact visual art education teachers with corresponding bodies abroad.
- Special planning of seminars, in collaboration with primary and secondary education bodies.
- Special planning of seminars and collaborations of the workroom artists and of their contact with the wider artistic environment of Greece as well as strengthening of the institution of invited artists, an institution that the Center has defended from the very beginning.
The eight artists who took part in the exhibition with their new works, formed a group, so that people, our people, could learn more about them, get into contact with their mode of expression and understand through their personal path their relationship with the children and adults who attend the Workroom of Fine Arts.
The exhibition ran until January 13, 2002.
