Friday, 31st January 2020

The Education Department – Workrooms of Fine Arts of the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete held a series of Art History Workshops to familiarize the participants with significant artists, artistic trends and art movements, from the Renaissance to the modern era.

At the same time, references were made to the historical and social contexts through emblematic works, different styles and fundamental concepts of art history. The courses were accompanied by rich supervisory material, and participants were invited to engage creatively and experientially in order to better understand the themes and art creation in general.

The 1st Workshop in Art History took place on Friday, 31st January 2020 at 18.00-20.00 in the premises of the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete, at 32 Mesologhiou Street.

Workshop theme: The life and work of Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890).

It was a wonderful journey through the life and work of the subversive Dutch artist from his beginnings in his homeland and the Parisian experiences to his journey to the South of France. References were made to his artistic vision, his influences and the techniques that led him from controversy to his rise to one of the most important artistic figures of the 19th century.
