MedPhoto Festival 2019-2020
Guided tours as part of the exhibition
Archive: Between the Public and the Private
Description:
On Sunday, 19th January 2020, a guided tour was held in the central exhibition entitled Critical Archives IV: Documents curated by Pavlos Fysakis and Dimitris Kechris.
The tour was open to the public, students, photography students, local cultural institutions and anyone interested.
The main concern and starting point of the exhibition was the ways in which visual archives of various kinds are produced, circulated, classified and stored, or even reinterpreted and reframed, by individuals, communities or institutions in different historical contexts. In this exhibition, works of art are “read” as visual pieces of evidence, correlated and “archived” anew, in a way of testing their interpretive boundaries between the private and public spheres and highlighting the importance or significance that can be given to them each time as an artistic production, personal story or social testimony.
The exhibition presented works by: Andrea & Magda, Alexis Vasilikos, Tommaso Bonaventura & Alessandro Imbriaco, Joachim Brohm, Lorenzo Castore, Haris Grigorakis, Alvaro Deprit, Forensic Architecture, Johan Grimonprez, Galateia Iatraki, Maria Karkanaki, Yevette Kapsala, Tonia Koinaki, Panos Kokkinias, Costas Mitropoulos, Dimitris Michalakis, Richard Mosse, Bill Balaskas, Laura Pannack, Max Pinckers, Georgia Ponirakou, Dimitris Sidirokastritis, Alec Soth, Marilena Stafylidou, Ioannis Stefanidis, Dimitris Charisiadis.
Curated by Maria Marangou, Pavlos Fysakis, Dimitris Kechris
