The Workroom of Fine Arts of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete,  in collaboration with visual artist Angelos Skourtis, developed the Educational Programme “Colours and Mantinades” for the children of the city.

The event took place on Saturday, March 1 in the facilities of the Workroom of Fine Arts (8 Himaras Street).

 
Educational Programme
During the programme Angelos Skourtis guided the children with the echo of the phrase “Almond-tree, my sister, talk to me of God... and the almond-tree blossomed…” and other excerpts from the novel God"s Pauper by Nikos Kazantzakis.

Accompanied by Manos Hadjidakis’s score for Aristophanes’ Birds, the children worked on paintings and went on to create their own masks.

Video art project
Using the creative outcomes of the educational programme, our young friends took part in a video-art project on the subject of colours and mantinades.

The first stage of the project involved material created by the artist in a school of our city. To this were added moments of creativity of the children as they painted and worked on their masks at our Art Workshops.

Finally, in creating a video-art project as part of a visual event on the Museum’s premises, artist Angelos Skourtis gathered mantinades songs written by the children.

Admission to the project was free.
