The Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete presented “The truth of the fairy tale and the fruit of the Sun”, an artistic event devoted to fairy tales, as part of the exhibition “Report on Nikos Kazantzakis” which was organised jointly with the Rethymnon Local Committee of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis.

Theodosia Argyraki-Assargiotaki in her twin capacity as writer and painter, created the literary album The truth of the fairy tale and the fruit of the Sun as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Kazantzakis; using the magic of colours and art and the poetry of fairy tales, she attempted to touch on such unfathomable yet universal questions as death or the soul—questions that arise in every child and young person who seeks the truth of life and freedom of thought.

Through speech and images from the work “The truth of the fairy tale and the fruit of the Sun”, the children were able to unfold the skein of the myth, discover its hidden truths in a creative way and combine educational knowledge and action with the free and inspired entertainment afforded by art.

The first part, addressed to all ages, was the presentation of the book which involved reading and the projection of images.

The second part was an educational activity for children of 9 to 12 years.
The duration of the programme was approximately one hour and thirty minutes, and admission was free.
During the exhibition “Report on Nikos Kazantzakis”, its curator Chryssoula Skepetzi conducted guided tours for visitors.
